CaribbeanA state of emergency was declared in Jamaica’s capital, Kingston, and the neighboring St Andrew parish May 23, as pitched street battles broke out between police and supporters of drug kingpin Christopher "Dudus" Coke over the government's decision to extradite him to the US. A police station was set ablaze, and areas of the capital are described as a war zone. Two police officers have been killed and six others wounded in the street clashes.

CaribbeanThe Jamaican government has agreed extradite to the US the accused leader of the notorious Shower Posse drug gang, Christopher "Dudus" Coke. Prime Minister Bruce Golding’s controversial decision reverses months of opposition to his extradition. Coke will be sent to New York to face drug and gun trafficking charges.

CaribbeanVivian Blake, a former top leader of Jamaica's "Shower Posse," which US prosecutors say was responsible for more than 1,400 drug-related killings within the United States in the 1980s, died March 20 in Kingston. Blake, 54, was rushed to an emergency room with breathing problems before he died. His daughter, Dominique Blake, said he had been suffering from kidney failure and diabetes.
