Morocco's royal navy intercepted two dinghies loaded with 2.725 tons of cannabis resin (locally known as chira) off the coast of Nador on Aug. 13. The four occupants of the boat, equipped with two 200-horsepower engines, managed to escape.
Police and customs services have seized a total of 383 kilograms of cannabis resin and 9 kg of kif in four operations this week. The government claims to have cut cannabis traffickers' revenue to less than one-third of its 2005 level. (Global Arab Network, Aug. 14)
